Otto: Automating Mobile App Deployment from Commit to Storefront
An internal SeeSaw Labs automation tool for app deployment, integrating GitHub authentication and CI/CD pipelines via BitRise and Golang.
Our Approach
1. Discover
We identified inefficiencies in internal app deployment workflows at SeeSaw Labs. Discovery revealed opportunities for automation to streamline repetitive deployment tasks.
2. Define
We defined a proof-of-concept app deployment automation-as-a-service. The roadmap emphasized simplicity, security, and integration with developer workflows.
3. Design
We designed a straightforward app interface using OAuth2 authentication with GitHub, allowing developers to manage repositories seamlessly.
4. Develop
We developed the system with React Native, Redux, BitRise, Golang, CLI tools, and SailsJS. The solution automated mobile app deployments to the Apple App Store and server hosting.
5. Delight
Otto delighted internal teams by reducing friction in deployments and providing a model for CI/CD automation. The tool influenced future infrastructure strategies.
